The Coastal Humane Society in Brunswick and its sister shelter, Lincoln County Animal Shelter, in Edgecomb, are welcoming more than 50 puppies and dogs from an overcrowded facility in Lucedale, Miss., where the stray dog population vastly outnumbers potential adopters.
Within one week of their arrival to the shelters’ Range Road location in Brunswick, all of the dogs will be examined, spayed or neutered, and put up for adoption on Saturday, June 16, both in Brunswick and in Edgecomb. The dogs make the 23-hour trip to Maine on board the Coastal Rescue Sprinter van, with two drivers, stopping only for food, water, and bathroom breaks along the way.
The shelters will post preview photos of some of the puppies for adoption ahead of the event on their Facebook pages. The dogs are all mixed breeds, resembling Labs, Shepherds, Dachshunds, hounds, and more. For more information, visit the shelters’ Facebook pages or call 725-5051 (Brunswick location) or 882-9677 (Edgecomb location).
