Between 1861 and 1865, Maine sent more than 70,000 troops to fight in the Civil War. The many photographs taken on both the home front and the battlefront comprise a major visual record of the conflict. On Monday, June 17 at 6:30 p.m., in a talk in the Damariscotta town office meeting room, Maine State Historian Earle G. Shettleworth Jr. will trace the state’s contribution to the war through period images of political leaders, soldiers, military encampments, and fortifications. There will be an opportunity for questions and discussion after the lecture.
The Damariscotta town office is located at 21 School St., Damariscotta.
