Skidompha Library in Damariscotta will host writing workshops over the February school vacation as follows:
Junior Journalists Boot Camp — grades five and six:
Skidompha Library is thrilled to offer a free four-day boot camp to interested fifth- and sixth-graders over February vacation week. The workshop will run from Tuesday, Feb. 19 through Friday, Feb. 22 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Skidompha. Participants will work with Maia Zewert, of The Lincoln County News, to learn reporting basics in this hands-on workshop. Participants will brainstorm article ideas, learn interview techniques, and write their own news articles that will be published in The Lincoln County News.
Write On creative writing workshop – grades seven through 12:
Join Skidompha Library for the second annual Write On workshop Tuesday, Feb. 19 through Friday, Feb. 22 from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Write On is a collaboration with The Telling Room, a nonprofit based in Portland that works to “empower youth through writing and share their voices with the world,” as it says at tellingroom.org. Attendees will explore a number of creative paths into the writing process, bring characters on quests, write mini fiction pieces and different styles of poems, and stretch the storytelling muscles while having a whole lot of fun. Sign up early to reserve a spot; email Kelsey Gibbs, kgibbs@skidompha.org.
Advanced signup is required for both programs; call Skidompha Library at 563-5513 or email kgibbs@skidompha.org to reserve a spot.
