Pumpkin Vine Family Farm in Somerville is bursting with new life, and people are invited to join in as the farm kicks off its market season on Sunday, May 27 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a celebration of spring. For those who haven’t had a chance to hug a baby goat yet, there is more than enough loving energy to go around. The farm has 16 kids so far, and is only halfway through kidding!
There will be baby goat coloring pages. Human children can frolic as well – there is room to play and a variety of kids activities planned. Grownups can stroll the grounds, tour the barn, and sample the goodness of fresh, local food.
The new farmers market will be bursting with the sweet flavors of spring: the market now has seven farmers contributing to the farm’s Sunday market, with everything from Somerville’s own maple syrup to pork, honey, organic veggies, seedlings, baked goods, flowers, and both cow and goat dairy products. To accommodate the growth, the farm has officially become the Farmers Market at Pumpkin Vine Farm this year, but is still – and will always be – first and foremost a community gathering space.
There is indoor and outdoor seating, with great views and good conversation guaranteed. As always, Pumpkin Vine offers free tea and coffee, and might have its new composting throne ready for one’s convenience.
The Farmers Market at Pumpkin Vine Family Farm will be open every Sunday from Memorial Day through Christmas, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The farm is located at 217 Hewett Road in Somerville, halfway between the capital and the coast.
