A leisurely canoe/kayak paddle on Crystal Lake in Washington is coming up on Sunday, Sept. 3 starting at 9 a.m., sponsored by Medomak Valley Land Trust and Washington Lakes Watershed Association. Environmental educator and Maine Guide Rob Stenger will lead the paddle around this little gem of a lake. It will be this small lake’s first public paddle this year.
Stenger is a frequent paddler on Washington’s lakes and will share his knowledge of Crystal Lake’s features and identify wildlife and vegetation one might see in and around the pond. He serves as a volunteer water quality monitor for Washington Lakes Watershed Association and can discuss how testing is done and the usefulness of the findings for those interested.
Participants should come with their boat, paddle, and personal flotation device/life vest. Paddlers under age 18 must be with an adult. For personal comfort, it is suggested that participants bring water, sunscreen, and a shirt or jacket in case there is a change in the weather. Crystal Lake is an easy paddle and will take about 1 ½ hours.
Paddlers will meet at 9 a.m. at the public boat launch for Crystal Lake, which is part of Nelson-Butterfield Town Park in Washington, located on Crystal Lake Road, via Young’s Hill Road. For more information and directions, call 845-2661 or 691-2094 or email info@medomakvalley.org.
