Advance directives can help one’s family members, friends, and medical providers understand one’s wishes and offer care and support that aligns with one’s priorities concerning medical treatment at the end of life. On Thursday, Oct. 18 from 10 a.m. to noon, Inn Along the Way in Damariscotta will host attorney Marcia DeGeer as she leads attendees through a conversation on advance directives.
DeGeer is a partner of the law firm Gallagher, Villeneuve, and DeGeer, where she concentrates her practice on family law, elder law, estate planning, real estate, and probate. Growing up in Maine, she is attuned to the concerns of those who were born in the state as well as those who have made Maine their home of choice. DeGeer will be on hand to answer questions and help people map a course for what could otherwise be a confusing and distressing time for them and those whom they love.
The event is free. Inn Along the Way is located at 741 Main St., Damariscotta. For more information, call 751-6261
Inn Along the Way is a nonprofit organization in the process of creating a collaborative community offering older adults, and those seeking temporary relief from the responsibilities of caregiving, an environment of support, purpose, and sustainability in a multigenerational and mutually interdependent setting. The organization is currently raising funds to complete its first phase, which will transform the original farmhouse into a small inn with a cafe and community rooms, offering overnight accommodations to the general public, as well as those seeking respite.
