Medomak Valley Land Trust is continuing its successful new program of public trail-building days and invites everyone out to participate in maintaining the land trust’s wonderful trail system.
On Saturday, April 29, the trail crew will meet at Geele Farm Preserve on Gross Neck Road in Waldoboro. This trail work day will be Medomak Valley Land Trust’s first in a spring-to-fall series of trail work days on the last Saturday of every month. The series will continue until late fall.
The Geele Farm trail system provides access to more than 100 acres of fields, forest, and marsh, and more than a mile of river frontage. The diverse trail takes visitors through working hayfields, clamflats, and a beautiful and undeveloped saltwater marsh.
To access Geele Farm Preserve, take Route 32 south from Route 1 in Waldoboro for 2.7 miles, then turn left onto Dutch Neck Road, then in 0.3 miles, turn right onto Gross Neck Road. Parking and the trailhead will be seen on the right, at a green gate, in approximately 1.5 miles. The workday will begin at 9 a.m.
Medomak Valley Land Trust will provide some equipment, but for those who are able, additional clippers, loppers, saws, etc. will be good to bring along. No experience is necessary; newcomers and first-timers are more than welcome.
In addition to events on the last Saturday of the month, the land trust’s trail crew meets every Wednesday at 9 a.m. to tackle trail needs at any one of its preserves. These work days are also open to new members.
