Community luncheons co-sponsored by Waldoboro United Methodist Church and Broad Bay Congregational Church will be held from noon-1 p.m. on Thursday, Jan. 19 and Thursday, Feb. 16 at Broad Bay Congregational Church, 941 Main St., Waldoboro.
Since late 2005, the two churches have co-sponsored a community luncheon founded by the Rev. Joseph Beardsley, pastor of Waldoboro United Methodist Church. This was in conjunction with the Waldoboro-Bremen Food Pantry, which met at Waldoboro United Methodist Church on the first and third Thursdays of the month.
There have been many devoted volunteers through the years who have prepared and served the luncheons, including the following members from Waldoboro United Methodist Church: Ardelle Gile, Betty Gersh, Jolene Millay, Jan White, Sylvia Harkins, Lillian Dolloff, Janet Braley, Linda Papineau, and Bonnie Penney. Those from Broad Bay Congregational Church include Karen George, Peggy Andrews, Linda Brandt, Pat Kristiansen, and Kathy Benner.
Pastors from Waldoboro United Methodist Church in addition to Beardsley have also been involved in the luncheons: Beverly Blaisdell, Jennifer Curran, and the church’s present pastor, Karen Lilli Pax. The Broad Bay Congregational Church’s pastor Nancy Duncan has also taken part.
