“Star Trek Beyond” is the 13th movie in this popular series. On this mission, the crew of the USS Enterprise, halfway into its five-year mission, become marooned on a distant planet after the destruction of the Enterprise after being attacked by a seemingly unstoppable wave of unknown aliens. With no apparent means of rescue, the crew find themselves in conflict with a new and ruthless enemy. With John Cho, Simon Pegg, Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban, Anton Yelchin, and Idris Elba.
“Star Trek Beyond” is rated PG-13 and runs 120 minutes.
Playing with “Star Trek” will be a new locally produced short film, “Watershed Video,” by talented videographers Ryan Leighton and Jonne Trees. Produced for Boothbay Region Community Television, it captures the beauty of the Adams Pond and Knickerbocker Lake watersheds. Tamara Lilly’s elegant narration beautifully conveys a simple message: keeping the Boothbay Region watershed clean and pure is a community responsibility. The five-minute short was written, directed, and produced by Sue Mello.
In the animated comedy “The Secret Life of Pets,” Max (voiced by comedian Louis C.K.) is a spoiled terrier who enjoys a comfortable life in a New York building until his owner adopts Duke, a giant and unruly canine. During their walk outside, they encounter a group of ferocious alley cats and wind up in a truck that’s bound for the pound. Luckily, a rebellious bunny named Snowball swoops in to save the doggy duo from captivity. In exchange, Snowball demands that Max and Duke join his gang of abandoned pets on a mission against the humans who’ve done them wrong.
“The Secret Life of Pets,” PG, plays at 7 p.m., Friday-Thursday, Aug. 5-11, and at 2 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 7.
