Due to great audience response, “Florence Foster Jenkins” will hold over for a second week and play through Thursday, Sept. 22 at The Harbor Theatre.
In “Florence Foster Jenkins,” Meryl Streep stars as an aspiring-but-painfully-untalented opera singer in this true story. In the 1940s, New York socialite Florence Foster Jenkins (Streep) dreams of becoming a great opera singer. Unfortunately, her ambition far exceeds her talent. The voice Florence hears in her head is beautiful, but to everyone else it is quite lousy. Her husband St. Clair (Hugh Grant) goes to extreme lengths to make sure his wife never finds out how awful she truly is. When Florence announces her plans for a concert at Carnegie Hall, St. Clair soon realizes that he’s facing his greatest challenge yet. With Simon Helberg, Rebecca Ferguson, and Nina Arianda.
“Florence Foster Jenkins” is rated PG-13. It plays at 7 p.m., Friday-Sunday, Sept. 16-18, and Wednesday and Thursday, Sept. 21 and 22. It also plays at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 18.
