The 13th annual Westport Island 10K run and 5K fun walk is scheduled for Sunday, Sept. 10. The 3.5-mile fun walk begins at 8:30 a.m. and the 10K race starts at 9 a.m. Contestants can register now and get more information about the race at westportisland.org. T-Shirts are only guaranteed if registration is completed by 5 p.m., Thursday, Aug. 24.
The 10K race on Westport Island takes place on a beautiful, wooded USA Track & Field-certified course, with almost no traffic, that crosses two waterways.
The race is to benefit the Westport Island Volunteer Fire Department, whose members provide logistical support and direct traffic at the event. Last year, the road race generated $1,500 for the firefighters; during the past 12 years, the race has generated over $17,000 for the firefighters!
Registration and bib pickup will take place beginning at 7:30 a.m. at the old town hall on Main Road, Westport Island, on race day.
