The public is invited to an old-fashioned ice cream social at the Alna Center station of the Wiscasset Waterville & Farmington Railway on Saturday, July 7 from noon-3 p.m.
Free locally produced Round Top ice cream and toppings will be served, and attendees are encouraged to bring picnics and stay at Alna Center between trains or take part in the various lawn games and activities being offered.
Parking for the social is at the museum’s Sheepscot Station, at 97 Cross Road in Alna. Trains will operate to and from the social on an expanded schedule. Walking trails will also be open at Top of Mountain station and the museum’s buildings and exhibits at Sheepscot Station will be open for visitors.
Regular train fares apply, with proceeds going towards the museum’s restoration efforts. A registered nonprofit, the WW&F Railway Museum is dedicated to preserving and teaching the transportation heritage of Maine’s Sheepscot River valley. The railway is maintained and operated entirely by volunteers, and others are welcome to join in rebuilding Maine history.
In the event of rain, the event will be rescheduled for Sunday, July 8.
