A 30-foot lobster boat in a yard at 18 Town Landing Road in Bremen was destroyed by fire late Saturday, June 30.
Bremen Fire Chief said property owner Jeremy Prior told him he was setting off fireworks when “one or two of them went astray” and caught the boat on fire, although a Maine State Fire Marshal’s Office investigator questioned the explanation and called the cause undetermined.
The boat, which the property owner described as a project, was on shore and no one was in it at the time, according to Leeman. The house on the property was not damaged and no one was hurt.
The Lincoln County Communications Center dispatched the Bremen Fire Department at 11:20 p.m. Firefighters cleared the scene by 12:30 a.m., Leeman said.
In addition to the Bremen Fire Department, tankers from the Bristol and Damariscotta fire departments responded to the scene.
The Office of the Maine State Fire Marshal was on scene Monday, July 2 to investigate.
According to State Fire Marshal’s Office Sgt. Joel Davis, Mary-Ann MacMaster investigated and could not determine the exact cause of the fire.
