“To keep the body in good health is a duty — otherwise we shall not be able to keep our mind strong and clear.” — Buddha
It has become common knowledge in many circles that there are numerous health benefits to getting one’s body massaged. The well-known and well-respected Mayo Clinic, among others, states at mayoclinic.org that massage “is an effective treatment for reducing stress, pain, and muscle tension,” and that massage may also be helpful in coping with anxiety, digestive disorders, fibromyalgia, headaches, stress-related insomnia, soft tissue strains or injuries, sports injuries, and temporomandibular – TMJ — joint pain.
Besides, a good, relaxing massage just feels so, well, good.
In Lincoln County, there are a number of licensed massage therapists to choose from to get one’s body professionally massaged. This article focuses on three of them, located in different parts of the county – Boothbay, Waldoboro, and Whitefield.
Julie Rogers
Julie Rogers is one of several licensed massage therapists working at Waldoboro Chiropractic & Massage, housed in a building painted the color of blue jeans with muted orange trim. She has been a massage therapist for about 20 years, three of those years at Waldoboro Chiropractic & Massage.
“It’s always a trick to describe what you do as a massage therapist,” Rogers said in an interview in her office, which smelled pleasantly of lavender and lemongrass. “I like to help problem-solve when someone has chronic or acute pain. But there is always the element of relaxation. Some people just need the stress release. It’s not always about pain.”
