Ada Gertrude (Beecher) Fehrs, 90, of Wolcott, Conn. and also of Jefferson, died Sept. 19 at her home in Wolcott. She was the widow of Hyland Charles Fehrs.
Mrs. Fehrs was born at home in Waterbury, Conn. on March 19, 1919, daughter of the late Burton Frank and Edna Gertrude (Reynolds) Beecher. She was a direct descendant of John Beecher, a 1637 original settler of New Haven, Conn. and she lived in Wolcott since 1948.
Mrs. Fehrs was a graduate of Wilby High School, class of 1937. She was a lifetime member of Mill Plain Union Church and a past president of the Ladies Guild of the Church. She was very active in the Girl Scouts, received their Golden Eaglet Award, and was a Girl Scout Leader for many years, as well as a Cub Scout Den Mother for nine years.
Mrs. Fehrs is a member of the Olivet Chapter #29, Masonic Order of the Eastern Star, and a member of the Evergreen Club. She was a former member of Winona Rebekah Lodge #8, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, AARP, and the Half-a-League Hiking Club. She was a proctor at Wolcott High School for 15 years.
She was predeceased by her sons, Charles Hyland Fehrs and Frank George Fehrs, and sister, Hazel Beecher Coe.
Survivors include her sons, Robert Harry Fehrs and David Beecher Fehrs; daughter, Marilyn Gertrude Fehrs, all of Wolcott; grandchildren, Mark, Scott, Ryan, Griffin, and Hayley Fehrs; and great-grandchildren, Jake and Samantha Fehrs.
Calling hours 5-8 p.m., Mon., Sept. 21 at the Murphy Funeral Home, 115 Willow St., Waterbury, Conn. Funeral 9 a.m., Tues., Sept. 22 from the funeral home to the Mill Plain Union Church, 242 Southmayd Rd., Waterbury for a celebration of Ada’s life at 10 a.m. Burial and committal will follow at the New Pine Grove Cemetery.
