Alan Henry Olson, 71, of Damariscotta, loving husband and father, passed away at LincolnHealth – Miles Campus on April 12 after a 10-year battle with cancer.
Alan was born March 16, 1945 in Bridgeport, Conn. He was the son of Edward Olson and Susan Marak Olson and the youngest of their four children.
He attended school in Fairfield, Conn. and graduated along with his wife Jayne from Andrew Warde High School, class of 1964. In 2015, they were able to attend their 50th class reunion. After high school came the army and Vietnam. When he returned from his army service, he owned and operated a Pepperidge Farm franchise.
Alan and Jayne moved to Maine in 1994. They purchased the Breakfast Place in Damariscotta, a very popular restaurant serving home-style food with Alan manning the grill.
Alan was a member of the American Legion and was a Damariscotta Mills Fish Ladder Restoration volunteer.
Alan was predeceased by his parents; and sisters, Louise and Florence.
He is survived by his wife and caregiver, Jayne; brother, Edward Olson; daughters, Jennifer Damon and husband John, and Carrie Conway and husband Kevin; son, Alan Olson Jr.; stepson, Tyler Mario and wife Laura; sister-in-law, Geri Masten and husband Thornton; seven grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins; and many, many friends.
Alan was a kind man with never a bad word about anyone, a man who faced his illness with courage and even some humor. He will be sadly missed by all.
At Alan’s request, there will be no services.
