Albert Amos Simmons passed away on Aug. 18. He was born on Feb. 17, 1938 in Friendship, a son of Amos and Bertha Simmons. He attended Friendship Village School (grades 1-8), Waldoboro High School (grades 9-12) and graduated from Waldoboro High School. He attended Diesel Engine Man’s school at Great Lakes Training Center in Illinois.
He served in the Navy with the rank of Engine Man 2 from 1956-1960. After the Navy he worked for Farrar Brown in Rockland, Bob Wallace’s Wharf in Friendship, and for himself as a lobsterman, logger, and cottage caretaker.
His special interests were hunting, fishing, building models of working boats and building regular-sized boats. He also built many buildings including his home.
He served the fire department for 26 years, 18 of them as fire chief.
He was predeceased by his parents, Amos and Bertha Simmons and brother, Roger Simmons.
Survivors include his wife, Priscilla (Peg) Jameson Simmons of Friendship; daughters, Elizabeth Anne Simmons of Friendship, and Amy Lynn Simmons of Augusta; grandchildren, Justine Overlock (Maryjo Lewis) of Waldoboro, Jeremy Overlock (Autumn Brown) of Waldoboro, Laura Simmons of Augusta, and Kaitlin Simmons of Augusta; great-grandchildren, Cadance Overlock of Waldoboro, and Parker Overlock of Nobleboro; brother, Richard Simmons of Friendship; cousin, Kenneth Simmons (Patricia) of Friendship; nephew, Michael Jameson (Donna) of Friendship; great-niece, Olivia Jameson of Friendship; great-nephew, Owen Jameson of Friendship; and brother-in-law, Elmer “Bud” Jameson (Carol) of Friendship and Florida.

There will be a family burial of his ashes at sea. At his request, there will be no funeral or memorial service.
