Albert Joseph Violette, 63, of Somerville, died unexpectedly April 9 at his home. He was born in Augusta on Nov. 6, 1944, the son of Albert J. Sr. and Regina Agnes (Levesque) Violette.
Mr. Violette enlisted in the U.S. Army at age 18 and served three tours of duty in Vietnam. During this time, he was awarded the National Defense Service Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Army Commendation Medal for Meritorious Service, the Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, the Expert M14 Rifle Medal, a Certificate of Appreciation, six overseas bars and was honorably discharged from the U.S. Army in 1977. He enrolled in the reserves and retired in June 2004. He was also part of the 619th Transportation Company out of Auburn. He was a lifetime member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was an avid fisherman, who loved being outdoors and would help many neighbors with farm chores or everyday tasks.
He was predeceased by his parents.
Survivors include daughter, Tiffany Violette; granddaughter, Amina Shaban who was his pride and joy, of Vernon, Conn.; brother, Eugene Violette and wife Gertrude of New Hampshire, their two children, Gerald Violette and Theresa Francoeur; and his dear friend Cory McDaniel.
At his request, there will be no hours of visitation. Memorial service, including full military honors, April 22 at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta.
