Alberta Hannan, 88, of Union, passed away June 10 at the Anderson Inn at Quarry Hill in Camden.
She was born in Rumford on Aug. 1, 1919, a daughter of Fred and Hazel Lunday Swett. She married Vivian “Junior” Hannan on May 29, 1941. She spent all of her married life in Union. She was a mother of eight children who stayed home raising her children until the last of her children was in high school. She worked as a head cook at Moody’s Boarding Home in Union until she retired.
Her enjoyment was at her home with her family, especially on holidays. She also enjoyed playing cards and watching sports on TV and going on Sunday rides.
For 40 years, on her birthday weekend, she and her family went picnicking and camping with up to 80 relatives and a few friends attending. Until about 10 years ago, she would join in on some of the ball games and sports.
She was predeceased by her loving husband of 55 years, Junior, in 1997, and brother, Ralph Swett.
Survivors include her daughter, Vivien Sukeforth and husband Bob of Union; sons, Maxey Hannan and wife Barbara of Union, Larry Hannan and wife Linda of Scarborough, David Hannan and wife Dianne of South Hope, Fred Hannan and wife Sharon of Sabattus, Donald Hannan and wife Sandy of Union, Vincent Hannan and partner Scott Cowger of Hallowell, and James Hannan and wife Lynne of Cave City, Ky.; 17 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren; brother, Orville Swett and wife Shirley of Gray; sister, Elizabeth Grinnell and husband Jim of Washington; and three sisters-in-law, Dot Flye of S. Portland, Phyllis Crabtree of South China, and Geraldine Winchenbach and husband Addison of Waldoboro.
Visitation 6-8 p.m., Fri., June 13 at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro.
Graveside service 2 p.m., Sat., June 14 at Lakeview Cemetery in Union.
