Alberta Poole Rowe, 99, of Bath, died Feb. 19 after a long stay in the Winship Green Nursing Center in Bath. Alberta was born Jan. 19, 1910 in Bristol, the daughter of Isaac F. and Ella (Sproul) Poole. She grew up on Damariscove Island and in 1918 moved with her family to Boothbay Harbor. Alberta graduated from Boothbay Harbor High School and Gorham Normal School.
Alberta enjoyed teaching elementary school in the Boothbay region for many years and lived in Boothbay Harbor for most of her life.
Alberta enjoyed playing the piano, singing, playing cards, crossword puzzles, reading, and watching television.
Carl Griffin, III and Dr. Alaric Faulkner centered a book around Alberta’s early years on Damariscove Island, “Coming of Age on Damariscove Island, Maine” published in 1980. Alberta enjoyed relating the stories of her childhood on the island, many of which are included in the book.
Alberta was predeceased by her husband, Aaron Vanever Rowe, in 1981; and by her ex-husband, Harold H. Harrington, Sr.
She is survived by her daughter, Sondra H. Spaulding of Bath; son, H. Harvey Harrington, Jr. and wife Marilyn of Thomaston; two grandchildren, Tracy Harrington of Thomaston and Timothy Harrington of League City, Tex.; sister, Winifred Sherman of Palm City, Fla.; as well as many nieces and nephews.
Graveside service and visiting hours in Boothbay will be announced for the spring.
