Albion K. Targett, 85, of Waldoboro, formerly of Flagstaff and Stratton, passed away peacefully on March 3 at the Quarry Hill Rehabilitation Center in Camden, where he had been a patient for one day, following a week’s stay at Penobscot Bay Medical Center.
He was born in Rockwood, on Feb. 17, 1922, the son of Kirkland A. Targett and Mabel (Murray) Targett.
While in the U.S. Army, he was presented the Bronze Star for his service during WWII.
He was an avid fisherman and enjoyed the outdoors. He spent most of his life as a lumberjack, as well as a foreman for the spring log drives. He worked in the Stratton Mill in between jobs in the woods, and as a carpenter for McCormick And Associates Builders from the late 1960s until 1987, when he retired.
He married Anne Tampas on Sept. 3, 1943, in New Mexico. They were married for 37 years.
He was predeceased by a baby daughter, Sally Jo in 1952; wife, Anne in 1980; and daughter, Carol Anne Targett (Crocker) Larson in February of 2007.
He is survived by four daughters, Olympia Alyce Targett (Davis) of Indianapolis, Ind., Barbara Lee Targett of Waldoboro, Virginia McNutt of Orlando, Fla., and Victoria Hall of Waldoboro; several brothers, sisters, nieces and nephews; nine grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson.
Albion will be sadly missed by family and friends.
At his request, there will be no public services.
Private interment will be in the Upper Cemetery in Eustis.
