Alfred E. Benner, 77 of Windsor, and formerly of Rockland and Waldoboro, died May 12 at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta Campus, following a long illness. He was born in Waldoboro on Dec. 3, 1930, a son of the late Howard and Grace (Hunt) Benner.
Mr. Benner was the co-owner of Benner s Crabmeat for 30 years. He previously had worked for Lipman Poultry in Augusta.
He loved farm work, raising animals, flowers and a good joke. He was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed playing Beano. He was infamous for his delicious crabmeat.
Mr. Benner was pre-deceased by his parents; a brother, Maurice Benner and a sister, Lillian Mclain.
He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Joyce L. (Creamer) Benner of Windsor; daughter, Kimberly Haskell and husband Carleton Haskell, Jr. of Windsor; step-son, Ronald Genthner and wife Patricia of Waldoboro; three step-daughters, Maureen Beaucage and husband Brian of Rochester, N.H., Sheila Bernier of Sabattus and Kathleen Good and husband Earl of Florida; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Ruth Benner of Rockland; nephew, Maurice Butch Benner, Jr.; niece, Evelyn Post; several great- nephews and nieces; and granddaughter, Greer Stevens.
Gathering of family and friends 1-3 p.m., Sun., May 25 at the family home at 208 Greeley Rd., Windsor.
