Alfred S. McKay, 78, of Edgecomb, died peacefully Feb. 23 at Cove’s Edge, Damariscotta, with his family by his side.
Born Oct. 26, 1930, he was the youngest of Ernest and Pearl (Philbrick) McKay’s six children.
He attended local schools, graduating from Lincoln Academy in the Class of 1950.
Al worked for many years as a caretaker of properties in the Pemaquid area and retired from Bath Iron Works in 1996.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph (Ern) and Thomas; and two sisters, Margaret Blake and Edith Lewis.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Geneva (Moody) McKay; sister, Olive Wright of Pemaquid Harbor; three sons, Alfred Thomas and wife Toby of Waldoboro, Donald Charles of Edgecomb, and Michael Ernest and wife Jennifer of Edgecomb; one daughter, Rhonda Cesario and husband Robert of Bradenton, Fla.; six grandchildren, Michael Allen, Alfred, Jr., Donald, Jr., Drew Parker, Nicole Kristine, and Michael Richard; two step-grandchildren, Erin Desrochers, and Adrienne Randall, eight great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
Time of visitation 2-4 p.m., Fri., Feb. 27, at the Strong Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta, with a gathering of family and friends at the home of Geneva, 23 McKay Rd., Edgecomb, following.
He will be laid to rest in Edgecomb, with a graveside service to be announced, in the spring.
