Alice “Kinsy” Symonds, 84, of Jefferson, ended her short battle with cancer on May 3.
Kinsy was born Alice May Webber on Aug. 9, 1925 in Anasquam, Mass. Kinsy graduated from Gloucester High School in 1944. During WWII, Kinsy was a volunteer with the local motor pool units and knitted numerous sweaters for the troops. In 1966, Kinsy moved to Maine and, with her husband David, operated a poultry farm in Rockland. In 1970, the family moved to Jefferson and operated a poultry farm there until their retirement.
Kinsy became a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in 1968. She was a very active member in the Order until this year. She served as Worthy Matron of her chapter four times, including a year in the East with her husband David and another year with her son Steven.
Kinsy was an avid gardener and knitter. She also was an active volunteer in her community.
Kinsy was predeceased by her son Jeffery and siblings Shirley Leal, Ellen Rose, Chuggy Webber, Scott Webber, and Charlie Webber.
Kinsy is survived by her husband of 63 years, David; daughter, Diane and husband Dominique Gagne of Poland; son, Steven and wife Beth of Belgrade; grandchildren, Bill Feener of Belmont, Chris Feener of Clearwater, Fla., Daniel and wife Jessica Gagne of Mechanic Falls, Jody and husband David Madore of Sabattus, and Renee and Chandler Symonds of Belgrade; great-grandchildren, Landon, Cameron, Mason, Tristan, and Bill Jr.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Maine School of Science and Mathematics (MSSM) Foundation, 61 High St., Limestone, ME 04750; Children’s Hospital of Boston, 300 Longwood Dr., Boston, MA 02115; or Lake Side Chapter OES #179, 21 Washington Rd., Jefferson, ME 04348.
Per her request, there will be no visiting hours. Eastern Star Service 1 p.m., Fri., May 14 at the Jefferson Masonic Hall, 21 Washington Rd., Jefferson. Graveside service 10 a.m., Thurs., May 13 at the Maine Veterans Cemetery, 163 Mt. Vernon Rd., Augusta.
