Alice Mae Adams, 85, of Jefferson, formerly of West Gardiner, died July 19 at the MaineGeneral Medical Center in Augusta surrounded by her family. She was born in Skowhegan on June 4, 1926, a daughter of Willie and Grace Dill Flewelling Sr.
Alice was a many talented woman, a homemaker, mother and wife who wrote poetry on occasion. She also ran a boarding kennel for many years and was greatly appreciated by clients and the animals she cared for. They kept coming back year after year.
She loved her family and especially her heavenly Father. She was faithful, obedient child of God willing to give her time, her possessions and her money in the furtherance of the Kingdom of God.
Alice attended the Calvary Four Square Church in Gardiner and most recently the First Baptist Church in Jefferson.
Alice was predeceased by her husband of almost 54 years, Frank; son, Roger Adams; brothers, William and Robert Flewelling; and grandsons, Kevin and Dean Sutherburg.
She is survived by her sister, Rheba Michaud and husband David; brother-in-law, John Adams; daughters, Elaine Sutherburg and husband Shirley, Paulette Heald and husband Fred and Sandra Stanley and husband Alex; several grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews; and many friends that she loved dearly and some that she ‘unofficially adopted’ into her family.
Visiting hours 6-8 p.m., Fri., July 22 at Staples Funeral Home, 53 Brunswick Ave., Gardiner where a funeral service will be 10 a.m., Sat., July 23. Burial will follow in the Oak Grove Cemetery Gardiner beside her husband.
