Alice T. Gray, a 35-year resident of Munising, Mich., died Feb. 12 at the Tendercare Health Center, Munising.
Mrs. Gray, formerly a nurse at Tendercare, was a member of Sacred Heart Parish and a longtime member of the Women’s Hospital Auxiliary. She once managed the former gift shop at Munising Hospital.
A native of Biddeford, Mrs. Gray attended school in Biddeford and Brooklyn, N.Y. She graduated from nursing school in Biddeford, and worked as a registered nurse in Biddeford, Bangor, St. Louis, Mo., Ann Arbor, Mich., and Munising, Mich. She met her husband, the late Parker W. Gray, in Bangor, and their marriage lasted 50 years, until Mr. Gray’s death in 2000.
Mrs. Gray lived in many places with her husband in the United States and Canada before settling in Munising, Mich. During her life, she was active in parent-teacher organizations in public schools in several locations.
A devoted wife and mother, she was the proud mother of three sons: Parker, Jr., of Munising, Mich.; James (Jane) of Madison, Wis.; and John, of Sun Prairie, Wis. She had three grandchildren: Melissa, Emily, and Kevin Gray. She is also survived by a sister, Barbara of Biddeford.
She is also lovingly remembered by numerous friends and family members in many states, many who trace their origins to Mrs. Gray’s longtime family home in Maine.
Mrs. Gray was an affectionate, gracious, and caring woman, known for her love of animals and gardening. She excelled at bridge. During her youth in Maine, she acquired a love of ocean beaches, and she was a superb swimmer. During her many years in Munising, Mich., she loved spending summer evenings with her husband and family picnicking at Sand Point, and could be counted on to know the best spots for blueberries.
Services and visitation were held in Munsing, Mich.
She will be laid to rest at the Hillside Cemetery, Damariscotta in the spring.
