Allan R. Chase, 82, of Naples, Fla. and Jefferson, died peacefully on Sept. 10 at Maine Medical Center in Portland, following a sudden illness.
He was born in Haverhill, Mass. on Feb. 7, 1925, the son of the late Murray E. and Josephine (McBride) Chase. He was educated in the Haverhill, Mass. schools, and graduated from Haverhill High School and Boston University, Boston, Mass.
He was a veteran of WWII, having served four years in the U.S. Navy from 1942-1946. He was the recipient of the WWII Victory Medal, American Theatre Medal, European African Theatre Medal with three stars, Asiatic Pacific Theatre Medal, and Good Conduct Medal.
He began his career as a technical writer with Raytheon Co. in Lexington, Mass., and later as the Manager of Publications for Raytheon Missile Systems Division in Bedford, Mass., until his retirement in 1987.
He resided in Lexington, Mass from 1959-1987, in Portsmouth, N.H. until 1997, and then in Naples, Fla. He was a longtime resident of Damariscotta Lake in Jefferson.
Allan and his wife, Elsie P. (Parsons) Chase were married in 1949 and they raised their five daughters in Lexington, Mass.
He is survived by his wife, Elsie, of Naples, Fla. and Jefferson; daughters, Catherine Chase and husband Stephen West of Acton, Mass., Ellen Chase of Wilmington, Mass., Nancy Lynch and husband Peter Lynch of Chester, N.H., Caroll Thompson and husband David Thompson of Gardiner, and Jennifer Colby and husband Chester Colby of Antrim, N.H.; sister, Lois C. Knight of Hampstead, N.H.; 14 grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
He was the brother of the later Paul I. Chase, former mayor of Haverhill, Mass.; and the late Barbara (Chase) Ellery.
A private memorial service was held in the C. Frank Linneham & Son Haverhill Funeral Home, 129 Kenoza Ave., Haverhill, Mass. At the request of the family there were no funeral home calling hours.
