Allen F. Brewer, 85, of Edgecomb, passed away May 20.
Allen was born in Boothbay Harbor, son to the late Harold and Ruth (Sherman) Brewer. He attended local schools, and worked in the woods with his uncle until 1950 when he enlisted in the Army during the Korean War. He served as a Corporal in the Air Force division of the Army Corps of Engineers.
After serving in the military, he returned to the Boothbay region, where he began a career as a building contractor. Fisherman’s Wharf was his first carpenter’s job. He worked at Brewer’s Boatyard for four or five years and for Paul Abbott, and lastly, at Allen Brewer Building until his retirement at the age of 76.
Working with wood was his enjoyment, as well as stock car racing and snowmobiling in his younger years. He was also a member of the Edgecomb Volunteer Fire Department. He had a passion for tractors; he loved to work and ride on them. During Allen’s later years, he enjoyed going to breakfast at the Ship’s Chow Hall in Wiscasset.
Allen was predeceased by his parents; wife, Gloria; brothers, Earl Brewer and George Brewer; and sister, Eldena Lowell.
He is survived by children, Robert Brewer and wife Sarah of Edgecomb, and Tamara Rother of Boynton Beach, Fla.; brother, Boyce Brewer and wife Millicent of Boothbay; grandchildren, Andrew and wife Krystal of Gorham. Allison Brewer of Portland, Ore., William Brewer of Newcastle, Nicole Stone and husband Jack of Boca Raton, Fla., and Danielle Rother of Boynton Beach, Fla.; and great-grandchildren, Hennessy, Logan and Wyatt.
Visiting hours will be held from 4:30-6:30 p.m., Fri., May 26 at Hall’s of Boothbay, 975 Wiscasset Rd., Boothbay.
Funeral service will be held at 1 p.m., Sat., May 27 at Hall’s of Boothbay, 975 Wiscasset Rd., Boothbay. Interment will immediately follow the service at Evergreen Cemetery, Barter’s Island Rd., Boothbay.
