Allen L. Hersom

 

Allen L. Hersom, 79, of Wiscasset, died Sept. 27 at Midcoast Hospital in Brunswick. He was born in Gardiner on Aug. 20, 1929, a son of Allen S. and Ellen I. (Lambert) Hersom.

 

He attended Wiscasset schools and entered the U.S. Army in 1946. He served as a corporal with the 6th Infantry Division, co. F 63rd Infantry Division during the Korean Conflict. On Sept. 22, 1951 he married Geraldine M. Lamson and they resided in Wiscasset.

 

He was employed as a turbine operator for Central Maine Power at the Wiscasset Mason Station for many years.

 

He was a Mason, a member of the American Legion, and a volunteer for the fire department, all of Wiscasset.

 

Allen was an avid reader and history buff who loved nature, gardening, and spending time with his grandchildren.

 

He was predeceased by his wife, Geraldine M. Hersom on May 15, 2007 and two brothers, Walter and Robert Hersom.

 

He is survived by one sister, Sally Colby of Wiscasset; son, Allen L. Hersom and wife Sherrie of Edgecomb; three daughters, Susan H. Lombardo and husband David of Hollis, Paula J. Hersom and longtime companion Wendell Delano of Wiscasset and Julie A. Madden and husband Bob of Washington; seven grandchildren, Ian L. Hersom, Joseph A. Hersom, Nicholas R. Lombardo, Luciana A. Lombardo, Brady J. Lombardo, Kerry C. Madden and Patrick H. Madden, as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

 

Graveside service 2 p.m., Fri., Oct. 3 at Greenlawn Cemetery in Wiscasset with Rev. John Potter officiating.
