Alpheus B. Poland, 69, of Machias and Round Pond, passed away on Dec. 16, 2012 at the Hospice Center at Togus with his family by his side.
As a young man he grew up on Marsh Island, Bristol, where he was a lobsterman and proud owner of the Marsh Island Express with which he ran many errands for island folk.
While living in Machias he worked for a construction company until his retirement.
He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing whether by himself or to a crowd. He one time played and sang with Ken McKensie at the theatre in Waldoboro.
He was predeceased by his parents, Charles F. and M. Priscilla Poland of Louds Island.
He was married to his wife Barbara Chasse for 20 years. They resided in Machias. Alpheus had one daughter, Leslie; two grandchildren; and several stepchildren.
He is survived by his brothers, Charlie of Bristol and Leri of Skowhegan; sisters, Jane of Bremen and Sarah of Nobleboro; and several nieces and nephews.
