Ann Elizabeth Manns, 63, of Newcastle, long-time resident of Rochester, N.Y., passed away on the morning of Nov. 23 with her loving husband and devoted friends by her side. Born in Rochester on June 22, 1951, she was the daughter of Richard and Jacqueline (Leib) Hoeffel.
Ann grew up in Rochester, attending local schools and graduating from Greece Athena High School in 1969. She went on to receive her degree in Sociology from Nazareth College in 1973. While in college, she met the love of her life, Brian Manns, and the couple would marry on June 1, 1974.
She continued a family legacy when she went to work for Bausch and Lomb in 1973. She retired as Senior Sales Coordinator in February of 2013, after almost 40 years of loyal service to the company.
Brian and Ann vacationed in Maine for almost 20 years, and knew they were going to spend their retirement years in the area. In 2010, they moved to Damariscotta Mills and renovated a beautiful, old home. They quickly fit right into the tight knit community.
Ann was active in the community, and became the volunteer coordinator for the Damariscotta Mills Fish Ladder Restoration Committee. She and Brian were both active in the CLC YMCA where they made many friends. She was a wonderful cook, enjoyed gardening, and was an avid reader.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her brother, James Hoeffel.
She is survived by husband, Brian Manns of Newcastle; sister, Susan Monahan; aunt and uncle, Joan and Don Hoeffel; cousins, Alan Dodd and wife Marilyn, and Gary Dodd and wife Susan; nephews, Christopher Monahan, and Patrick Monahan; niece, Rachael Farling; as well as many close friends.
A celebration of her life will take place in the spring, which will coincide with the annual block party with the neighbors.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Ann’s memory to either: The American Cancer Society, 1 Bowdoin Mill Island, Topsham, ME 04086; or The Damariscotta Mills Fish Ladder Restoration, c/o Nobleboro Historical Society, PO Box 122, Nobleboro, ME 04555.
