Ann McLain, of Walpole, passed away Jan. 22 at her home, with her family by her side. Her passing followed a long illness.
Born in Jersey City, N.J. on May 20, 1927, she was one of six children of Anthony and Geraldine DeLuca Mirando. In New Jersey, Ann worked as a photographer where she met a young Maine soldier just returning from Korea. His name was Douglas McLain. In 1953 they married and moved back to his hometown of Bremen. There they raised a family, in 1978 they moved to a new home which they built in Walpole.
Ann was well known for her excellent Italian cooking and her love of Bingo, she enjoyed embroidering, cooking shows and staying in touch with her family.
She was predeceased by her husband of 47 years, Douglas McLain Sr. in 2000 and a granddaughter, Christina McFarland.
Surviving are two sons, Douglas McLain Jr. of Walpole, and David Leonard of Smyrna, Ga.; six daughters, Rhonda Flower of Walpole, Carol Burr of Inglewood, Fla., Darlene McLain and Judy Schwarz both of Damariscotta, Marie Davis of Jackson, N.J., and Jeanette Wordock of Round Pond; ten grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren.
In keeping with Ann’s wishes there will be no visiting hours, a private memorial service will be held in the spring. Her final resting place will be next to her husband at Evergreen Cemetery in Bremen.
