Anna-Lisa I. Fisher, 93, of Damariscotta, died the morning of Dec. 10 at Chase Point Assisted Living.
She was born Jan. 7, 1921 in Hassleholm, Sweden, a daughter of the late Gustav and Esther (Skogland) Isakson. She lived the first 10 years with her grandparents in Sweden until their deaths. She traveled alone, on a ship, under the captain’s watchful eye, to be reunited with her parents in the United States. After graduating from Roslindale High School, she began working for the Lahey Clinic as a medical secretary.
In 1948 she married Roy G. Fisher, a structural engineer working for Stone and Webster. They lived in Walpole, Mass. for 32 years where they raised their daughter. Mrs. Fisher and her family were very active in the Union Congregational Church in East Walpole where she worked as the church secretary. Following her husband’s retirement in 1986, they moved to New Harbor. In 2005 they moved to Schooner Cove Damariscotta.
In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by her husband who died in 2006.
Mrs. Fisher is survived by daughter, Lisa E. Gerrish of Cape Cod, Mass.; cousins, Joyce Merrill of Saco, and Jean Balderston and husband David of New York, N.Y.; niece, Barbara L. Price of Denham Springs, La.; and eight nieces and nephews and their families in the Southern U.S.
Friends are invited to visit with the family 1-2 p.m., Sat., Dec. 20 at Strong-Hancock Funeral Home, 612 Main St., Damariscotta. A service to celebrate Mrs. Fisher’s life will follow at 2 p.m. at the funeral home with Rev. Ken Dale, officiating. Interment will be in the Massachusetts National Cemetery, Bourne, Mass. next to her husband in spring 2015.
