Anna Lucas, 87, of Jefferson, passed away Aug. 9 at her residence.
Anna was born to Emil and Sarah Sherman Nielsen in Bridgeport, Conn. on May 17, 1924. Anna graduated from Bridgeport (Conn.) High School. She met and then married Austin S. Lucas on March 2, 1946. They moved to Maine in 1947, making their home in Union, then moving to Waldoboro, Winslow Mills, Jefferson and eventually retiring to Ocala, Fla.
Her husband, Austin, passed away in 1998. It was then she sold their house and moved to Jefferson to live with her son Kenneth. Anna and Austin worked for GTE Sylvania in Waldoboro for 31 years. She was a former member of the GTE Quarter Century Club, Life member of the VFW Auxiliary, Waldoboro; Life member of Lake View Chapter #179, Jefferson; and a member of the Square Dance Club of Maine where Anna was president in 1984. Anna and Austin enjoyed square dancing and she sewed all their costumes by hand. Anna was a former member of the United Church of Bridgeport, Conn. They joined the National American Family Camping Association and they together traveled all over the states square dancing.
She was predeceased by her husband Austin S. Lucas; two sisters and two brothers.
Anna is survived by a son, Kenneth C. Lucas of Jefferson and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours Aug. 14 at Hall Funeral Home, Waldoboro. An Eastern Star Funeral Service was held after. Celebration of her life 2 p.m., Mon., Aug. 15 at Hall Funeral Home followed by burial in the Lakeview Cemetery, Union. The Rev. Robert Bellows will officiate.
