Annamae S. Frazier, 93, of Gaithersburg, Md. and formerly of Waldoboro, died Nov. 18 at her home after a brief illness. Born April 3, 1917, in El Reno, Okla., she was a daughter of Pericles and Ethel (Lewis) Savidis. Her family moved to Chicago five weeks after her birth, where she grew up. Married in 1942 to Loring R. Frazier, they settled in Swampscott, Mass. They became members of First Church in Swampscott (Congregational) and soon became actively involved in the church’s activities; they were founding members of the young couples club and later joined the older couples club; she is remembered for the chocolate and other candies she made beginning in the mid-1950s for the annual fair and other occasions, an activity she maintained for more than 20 years. She became a math teacher at Lynn English High School in 1965 and soon became the advisor to the school’s math team.
Mr. and Mrs. Frazier both retired in 1978 and moved to Waldoboro where she continued her candy making and took up teaching on a part-time basis. She also took up weaving and gardening, went on several Elderhostel trips, and became active in some local philanthropic organizations. She and her husband were charter members of the Broad Bay Congregational (UCC) Church. About nine years after her husband’s death in 1987, she moved to Palm Harbor, Fla. In 2001 she moved to a retirement community in Gaithersburg, Md.
Mrs. Frazier earned a Bachelor’s Degree in math from Lawrence University, Appleton, Wis., and a Master’s Degree in Education from Salem State, Salem, Mass. She also took several math courses at Boston College. She was a life member of Alpha Chi Omega sorority, and a life member of the American Association of University Women. She was also very active in the Spinners & Weavers Guild in Maine, Florida, and Maryland.
Family and friends were very important to her and she thoroughly enjoyed the time spent with each and every one.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by son, William, a brother and a sister.
She is survived by a brother, Charles of Libertyville, Ill.; sons, Thomas and wife Evelyn of Gaithersburg, Md. and Donald of Delta Junction, Alas.; daughter, Margaret of Germantown, Md.; daughters-in-law, Caroline of Mountain View, Hawaii, and Ronnie of Waldoboro; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
