Anthony “Tony” Joseph Trippi died suddenly of a heart attack on April 3 at the age of 44 years old. He was a devoted teacher, friend, son, and brother.
Tony was born on Aug. 10, 1969, the son of Joseph and Virginia Trippi. He attended New Paltz High School in New York, followed by Central Maine Technical Center, and then completed his teaching degree at the University of Southern Maine.
In 1995, Tony began his teaching career as a carpentry teacher at Bath Regional Career and Technical Center which serves students from Boothbay Region High School, Lincoln Academy, Wiscasset High School, and Morse High School, and continued in that position for the next 19 years. He had a great passion for teaching and was always sure to put safety first. Tony worked closely with the Bath Rotary in building modular houses with his carpentry students.
Tony received the Paul Harris Fellowship award, the Rotary International’s Highest Honor in 2008, and the honor of Carpentry Teacher of the Year in 2009.
He was a member of the Elks Organization in Brunswick for 18 years where he was a dedicated member and held the position of Trustee for a number of years. He was also a Son of the American Legion. He enjoyed spending time with his friends at both locations. Tony was also the Vice President of the Porter Lake Association.
Coal, his beloved dog, went everywhere he went. They spent lots of time on walks and being at school watching over the students. Tony had a great love of the outdoors. He spent a lot of his time at camp on Porter Lake. Fishing, hunting, snowmobiling, boating, jet skiing, four-wheeling, fixing and remodeling camp were many of his hobbies.
Tony is survived by his parents; sister, Lee Trippi-Rutigliano and brother-in-law, Bob; nieces, Gina, Imma, and Sara, all of Tillson, N.Y.; and girlfriend, Tricia Bursey, and her sons, Alex and Evan, of Topsham.
A memorial mass was held April 7 at St. John’s Catholic Church in Brunswick. Spring interment will be held in the New Vineyard (Pratt Corner) Cemetery, New Vineyard.
