Arletta Frances Flagg, 94, of Waldoboro, passed away on Nov. 11 at Miles Memorial Hospital in Damariscotta.
She was born in Cushing on Oct. 3, 1913, the daughter of Dewey and Lizzie Davis Maloney. She grew up in the area and was a graduate of Thomaston High School, class of 1931 and Rockland Business College, class of 1933.
In 1936, she married Richard Flagg and they made their home in Waldoboro, raising six children. She loved playing the piano and played at local granges, dance halls and numerous minstrel shows and when asked, played for the radio station WRKD.
She worked for several local insurance agencies and at the age of 60, went to work for the State of Maine, Motor Vehicle Division for 14 years, retiring at the age of 74.
She enjoyed traveling to visit her family and attended all of their marriages and special family events. She was an avid reader and especially enjoyed mysteries. During the last few years, she enjoyed her friendships with the residents of Waldoboro Green.
She was a member of the Warren Rebeckas.
She was predeceased by her husband, Richard Flagg in 1992; daughter, Martha Flagg; and son, Paul Flagg.
Survivors include her sons, David Flagg and wife Judy of Rockland, John Flagg and wife Margarita of Westbury, N.Y., Stanley Flagg and wife Gale of Fort Kent, and Lewis Flagg and wife Alice of Winthrop; daughter-in-law, Bette Flagg, of Waldoboro; grandchildren, Roxana Ospina and husband Jorge of Chesterfield, Va., George Flagg and wife Chamali of E. Stroudsburg, Penn., Joanne Lien and husband Jason of E. Islip, N.Y., Diane Flagg of Santa Fe, N.M., Laurie Inacio and husband Bruno of Kittery, Gregory Flagg of Paisley, Fla., Melanie Wotton of Waldoboro, and Michael Flagg and wife Erica of Union; great-grandchildren, Andrew Ospina of Chesterfield, Va., Cody Wotton of Waldoboro, Lindsey, Joshua and Benjamin Flagg of West St. Paul, Minn., Samantha Gardner of Paisley, Fla., and Mia Flagg of Union; and many nieces and nephews.
Visiting hours 6-8 p.m., Tues., Nov. 13 at Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro.
Celebration of her life 1 p.m., Wed., Nov. 14 at Hall Funeral Home. Burial will follow in the Flagg Cemetery in Nobleboro with Rev. Robert Bellows officiating.
