Arline R. McManus, 96, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family at her daughter’s residence, Evonne and Chester Wright, on March 28 after an extended battle with cancer. She was born March 13, 1919 in Dover-Foxcoft, the daughter of Alonzo and Lena (Dovoe) Hunt.
She and her late husband, Arthur, lived and worked in Ware, Mass. for many years, then moved to Edgecomb. She lived and worked on the coast in Wiscasset for 40 years before moving back to Skowhegan to be near her family. She enjoyed being with family and friends. She loved to garden, hunt, fish and was known as the “crab lady” because she picked crabmeat and sold it to help support herself. She loved to knit and made lots of wool socks, mittens, and hats for her whole family.
She earned her Certified Nurse’s Aide license, worked and helped run Lincoln Home in Newcastle for many years. She belonged to the garden club there, was a state grange member and held many positions in it. She also made and decorated Christmas wreaths in the winter for Griffin’s Nursery in North Edgecomb.
Her husband, Arthur McManus, when he was still here, traveled all over the country and many states. Arline was a self taught painter, liked country and western music, loved people and family reunions.
She was predeceased by her parents, Lena and Alonzo; brother, Roland; sister, Pauline Moody; and son, Randy Post.
Arline is survived by children, Evonne Wright and husband Chester of Skowhegan, Joanne Goodridge and husband Kenneth of Brighton Plantation, Phyllis Campbell of Athens, and Milford Post Jr. of Warren, Mass.; step-son, Arthur McManus Jr. and wife Laura of East Madison; 13 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
There will be no visitation hours or funeral service. A graveside service will be held in the spring at the Cornville Cemetery.
In lieu of flowers, friends wishing may make donations in Arline’s memory to a charity of your choice.
