Mr. Arnold Sheldon Zellman, 85, of Walterboro, S.C., and formerly of Haverhill, Mass., died Sept. 3 at Veteran’s Victory House Nursing Home, Walterboro, S.C.
He was born in Haverhill, Mass., Nov. 20, 1922, son of the late Meyer and Rose (Fine) Zellman.
Educated in the Haverhill school system, Mr. Zellman earned his Bachelors Degree in Business Administration from Boston University.
During WWII he served in the U.S. Army for four years.
For many years he was employed in the retail garment industry for Stone Manufacturing, Tepper Brothers and Allied Stores.
Arnold was an accomplished pianist, ballroom dancer and avid reader.
He was the devoted father of his three daughters, Bonnie Z. Stone of Newcastle, Kim Z. Bannister of Lexington, S.C., and Deborah A. Zellman of Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
His family was paramount in his life. He enjoyed reading to his grandchildren, Samuel Z. Stone, Benjamin K. Stone, Shayna R. Bannister, and Daniel M. Bannister.
His sons-in-law Gary E. Stone and David M. Bannister completed his family circle and he would have enjoyed knowing that his youngest daughter Deborah was engaged and planning her wedding to Chad Ferris.
Though Arnold resided in the lovely state of South Carolina for 35 years, he remained a Yankee through and through, complete with his Bostonian accent.
Arnold was proud to be a Jew and derived great pleasure in knowing that his grandchildren were carrying on the tradition by making their Bar and Bat Mitzvahs.
As his friends and family mourn his death, they also celebrate his life and recall his infectious laugh and broad signature smile.
Relatives and friends are respectfully invited to attend the graveside service 11 a.m., Fri., Sept. 5 in Children of Israel Cemetery, Middle Rd., Haverhill, Mass.
Arrangements are by the H.L. Farmer & Sons Funeral Homes, Haverhill & Bradford.
