Arthur J. Lundevall, 80, of Union, died Jan. 25 at Penobscot Bay Medical Center in Rockport. He was born March 28, 1928 in Perth Amboy, N.J., a son of John and Cecelia Lundevall. He attended East Chester High School in Bronx, N.Y. and Stuyvesant High School. He left school to work at Burken Lamination as Assistant Foreman Punch Press Operator from 1947 to 1951.
He served in the U.S. Army from 1951 to 1953 as a Sergeant, High Speed Radio Operator. He married Sylvia Bagley in 1955 in Camden.
He worked as Assistant Manager for A&P Stores in Pittsfield, Camden, and Rockland for 19 years. While working, he pursued a degree in Education at the University of Maine, Orono, graduating in 1973 with a Bachelor of Science Degree. He later obtained his Masters Degree in Education in 1981. He taught Mathematics and coached girl’s basketball for many years at junior high schools in Windsor and Bath. He retired in 1990.
He served as Selectman for the town of Rockport for several years. He was a Boy Scout leader in Camden for several years. He loved his gardens and raised tomatoes and vegetables to give away to relatives and neighbors. During summers, he lobstered in the Cushing area. He enjoyed playing baseball, basketball and bowling. He played on several teams over the years. He also enjoyed hunting and fishing.
He was predeceased by a son, Charles Dean Lundevall; and brothers, Charles and John Lundevall.
He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Sylvia Lundevall of Union; daughter, Karen Poulin and husband David of Union; sons, Kevin Lundevall of Clarence, N.Y., and Jay Lundevall and girlfriend Dale Harvey of Warren; grandchildren, Benjamin Jacobs of Colorado, Jacqueline Lundevall of Waldoboro; Melissa Poulin of Rockland, and Matthew Poulin of Union; sister-in-law, Priscilla Lundevall of Rockland; nephew, John Lundevall of California; nieces, Kristi Wyllie of Warren, and Ellen Lundevall of Virginia; and many cousins.
Graveside service will be held in the spring at the Achorn Cemetery in Rockland at a date and time to be announced.
