Arthur I. “Bill” Poland, 60, passed away at his home March 25 after a long illness, with his loving family at his side.
Arthur was born in Damariscotta on June 28, 1947, a son of the late Arthur and Madelene Genthner Poland, and was a graduate of Waldoboro High School, Class of 1965.
For over 27 years he was employed by Crowe Rope in Warren as a machine operator.
He attended the Warren Congregational Church, and loved fishing in both fresh and salt water, painting, ceramics and woodworking, especially carving walking sticks.
Bill had a great love of Native American History and Heritage, attending pow-wows and annually traveling to Micmac tribal grounds in New Brunswick to fish with his friends, Robert and Gertrude Augustine.
Survivors include son, Thomas Poland of Waldoboro; step daughter, Stephanie Bartlett of Searsmont; brother, Robert Arthur Poland, Sr. of Waldoboro; nieces, Terry Poland of Waldoboro, and Cheryl Johnson of Appleton; nephew, Robert Arthur Poland Jr. of Waldoboro, and special family friends, Robert and Gertrude Augustine of Warren.
Celebration of Bill’s life 11 am, Tues., April 1 at the Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St. Waldoboro, with Reverend Robin Honaker officiating. Interment will be in the German Cemetery in the Spring with a time and date to be announced.
