Assunta (Tina) Maria Johnson, 88, passed away Sept. 30 at Conway (S.C) Medical Center. She was born Aug. 15, 1924 in Pisa, Italy – a daughter of the late Aurelio and Leonetta Leoni Petroni.
Mrs. Johnson was a loving mother, sister and friend to those who met her and knew her. A 30-year resident of Champaign, Ill. she was a patron and active member of the board of the Champaign-Urbana Symphony Guild through the University of Illinois. She also involved in the University Ital-American Club.
She served with several volunteer organizations affiliated with Holy Cross Church, Mercy Hospital and Mercy Resale in Urbana, Ill. As a 19-year resident of Cape Elizabeth she served as layperson for Saint Bartholomew Catholic Church and she continued her volunteer activity with the Portland Soup Kitchen. She was a patron of the Portland Symphony Orchestra and String Quartet.
As a 37-year summer resident of Pemaquid Point, Mrs. Johnson was an active volunteer with the Bristol Area Library, the Bristol State Park district and the Pemaquid Point Lighthouse and Fisherman Museum. She also served on the boards of the Pemaquid Point Association and the Pemaquid Landowners Association.
Mrs. Johnson was also predeceased by her husband, Col. Arthur Lawrence Johnson in 1991; sister, Elvira Bianucci; and brother, Dr. Carlo Bianucci.
Mrs. Johnson is survived by son, Richard L. Johnson and wife Amanda of Myrtle Beach, S.C.; daughter, Blanche M. Johnson and husband Bill Lascelle of Maryland; and sister, Bruna Bianucci Landi of Turin, Italy.
A private inurnment will be at a later date at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta.
Memorial services will be held at Saint Patrick’s Catholic Church in Newcastle during the summer of 2013.
