Audrey Rose Call, 13, of Dresden, died unexpectedly Sept. 6 at Hall Dale Middle School. She had complications from a lifelong severe congenital heart condition.
Audrey was born April 16, 1994 in Lewiston, the adopted daughter of Andrew and Nancy Call. Initially home schooled, Audrey attended Dresden Elementary School and was a seventh grader at Hall Dale Middle School in Hallowell.
She will be remembered as a loving and spunky child who lived a full and busy life. Despite the severity of her disability, she was physically very active and noted for her whirlwind personality and flair. She was in constant motion, continually challenging herself. She loved to run and dance, climb and hang. She loved school and its staff, and looked forward to each day, greeting staff with hugs.
Audrey was a 5-time Equestrian Special Olympian and was training at Friendship Stables in Augusta with her horse, Smokey for the Sept. 29 event in Skowhegan. She was Silverspur Riding Club’s 2006 class champion and 2004 reserve champion. She placed first or second in most competitions.
She had a “Make-a-Wish” trip to Disney World in Orlando, Fla. and a Disney Wonder Cruise to the Bahamas in 2002. She joyfully attended the yearly Make-a-Wish family reunions. She enjoyed trips to Mystic Seaport in Connecticut, Sturbridge Village, Mass. and sightseeing in Boston, Mass. and New York City, N.Y. Audrey attended several area churches and was a true Christian of the heart, encouraging and praying for those who had concerns or needs.
She lived life to the maximum in every moment, and loved loyally with an uncharacteristic intensity. She was light and joy to those that knew her. Audrey’s life goal was to “be normal” and that she accomplished to her potential before her death on Thursday morning. While she strove for a normal life, she in actuality achieved an extraordinary life. She will live on forever in her family’s hearts and her Savior’s Kingdom.
