Ava Virginia Wallace, 93, died Feb. 9 at the Cushing Group Home in Cushing. She was born Feb. 9, 1917 in Friendship, a daughter of Charles Addison Wallace and Nellie Belle Wincapaw Wallace.
She was a graduate of Thomaston High School in the class of 1934. She married Lowell Wallace in 1936. She raised her four children and was active in the family agriculture business.
She later waitressed at Moody’s Diner in Waldoboro from 1970 to 1986 until she retired. In retirement she enjoyed spending time at the family camp on South Pond in Warren. She also enjoyed traveling in Maine and Florida and going out to eat. Ava and Lowell spent many winters in Florida staying at the Whitehall Inn on Daytona Beach.
She was a member of the Waldoboro Baptist Church, Wiwurna Chapter O.E.S. and the Rebekahs of Waldoboro. She was also an avid beano player.
She was predeceased by her husband, Lowell B. Wallace Sr.; brother, Robert Wallace; and sister, Annie Hutchins.
She is survived by sons, Charles Wallace and wife Janet of Sabattus, and Lowell Wallace Jr. and companion Debbie Knight of Waldoboro; daughters, Anne Knott of Damariscotta, and Jean Fales and husband Rusty of Warren; brothers, Douglas Wallace of Waldoboro, and Harlan Wallace and wife Nancy of Friendship; sister, Evelyn Winchenbach of Augusta; 11 grandchildren; 23 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Visiting hours 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Thurs., Feb. 11 at the Hall Funeral Home, 949 Main St., Waldoboro. Funeral 11 a.m., Fri., Feb. 12 at the funeral home followed by a reception. Burial will be in the Sweetland Cemetery in Waldoboro.
