Barbara B. Crocker, 100, of New Harbor, passed away at her home on the morning of April 20, surrounded by her loving family. Born on Orr’s Island, July 4, 1907, she was the daughter of James and Harriett (Glidden) Stilphen.
Following her graduation from high school, Barbara married Capt. Claude P. Crocker. For the earlier part of their life Barbara and Claude lived in Boston, Mass. and later moved to their home in New Harbor, where they had the unique ability to bring immediate and extended family together, always making them feel at home. Following her husband’s death May 2, 1988, she remained here, with care from her family, until her passing.
On her 100th birthday Barbara was presented the Boston Post Cane as the oldest citizen of Bristol. Active throughout her life, she was committed to many organizations including the New Harbor United Methodist Church, the United Methodist Women, The Miles Memorial Hospital League, the Fortnightly Club, the Pemaquid and Pemaquid Beach Community Clubs and her beloved bridge club. In addition to her community involvement, Barbara had a passion for words and word games and loved completing crossword puzzles up until her final days.
Barbara leaves her children, Joyce Coleman and husband Bob of Corinth, Myrtle Ann Hanna and husband Harney of Round Pond, and Claudia Hatch and husband Fred of New Harbor; 13 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; 3 great-great-grandchildren; and a very large extended family, including many nieces, nephews and friends.
Service to honor her life 11 a.m., Fri., April 25, at the New Harbor United Methodist Church, Rev. Ernest Farrar officiating. She will be laid to rest, with her husband, at the New Harbor Cemetery.
