Barbara Louise Fossett, 96, passed away peacefully on July 15. She was born on Oct. 24, 1917 the daughter of the late George and Eva (Kelley) Granger in Boothbay Harbor. During her childhood the family moved to Randolph where she attended local schools before returning to Boothbay at the age of 17.
After high school she met and married Carleton W. Reed at the age of 19. Her career was spent around helping people. Barbara worked as a deputy sheriff for 20 years and also spent some time working for the Boothbay Harbor Police Department. She was a dispatcher for both the police and fire departments and spent time with the Midcoast Law Enforcement Agency finally retiring as a dispatcher.
Barbara was a member and past president of the American Legion Post 36 as well as a member of the VFW auxiliary. One of her proudest accomplishments was that she was a charter member of the Boothbay Harbor Ambulance.
Barbara loved to travel and made three trips to Ireland, as well as trips to Florida, California, and Texas to visit with her family. Barbara enjoyed spending time with her family and would make a lot of clothes for her family members. Barbara could also be seen dancing the night away when the VFW would host public dances.
She is predeceased by her first husband, Carleton Reed; second husband, Kenneth Fossett; brothers, Donald, John, Alfred, and Burton Granger; and sister, Florence Robinson.
Survivors include her daughters, April Ellen Danielson of Boothbay Harbor, and Karen Lynne Reed of Boothbay Harbor; sister, Lilla M. Courtney of San Antonio, Tex.; six grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and three great-great-grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m., Sat., July 26 at Hall Funeral Home of Boothbay, 975 Wiscasset Rd., with Pastor Ami Sawtelle officiating.
