Barbara Walker Horton passed away peacefully on Sept. 15 at her home in Cocoa Beach, Fla., attended by Health First Hospice Services, and with her friends, Jennifer and Michael Markstein of Manchester, Conn. and Christine Boyle of Merritt Island nearby.
Barbara was preceded in death by her parents, Earl and Hallie Cullin Walker; brother, Alvin Walker; two sisters, Opal and Jean; her very good friend, Theodore (Pat) Patterson of Cocoa, Fla., and step-niece, Natalie A. Wriggins of Nobleboro.
Barbara is survived by her sister-in-law, Betty Walker; niece, Harriette Lindsey; nephews, Doug, Alvin Jr., and James Walker; stepson, John Michael Horton; step-grandson, Michael Laine Horton; step-niece, Virginia Hochella; and step-nephew Thomas Wriggins III.
Following the death of her husband, John Horton in 1985, Barbara continued as administrator for the YWCA in Manchester, Conn., retiring to Cocoa Beach, Fla. in 1989.
Barbara was a member of Riverside Presbyterian Church, Merritt Island, the Women of the Moose Lodge # 1544, and the Red Hat Society.
Following Barbara’s wishes, her cremains will be interred at her husband’s plot in Nobleboro, with a private family service at a date to be determined.
