Barbara Yates Perkins, 85, of Dresden and Bowdoinham, passed away on April 9 at Central Maine Medical Center, Lewiston from complications of surgery.
She was born on Aug. 2, 1932, the daughter of the late Vernon C and Rita (Thurlow) Yates.
Barbara married Elwood Perkins of Dresden; they were married 62 years before his passing. In her younger years, Elwood and Barbara loved motorcycling and spending lots of winters in Florida. She enjoyed being with people, playing cards, puzzles, shopping, feeding and watching the birds, summers up the bluff with family and friends. She always had the biggest genuine hugs to all she knew. Barbara worked all her life until she retired 22 years ago from Clarostat in Richmond.
She was predeceased by parents, Vernon and Rita Yates; husband, Elwood Perkins; sister, Janet Marshall and husband Roger; and brother-in-law, Arthur Smith.
Barbara leaves behind sons, Dana Perkins and wife Theresa of Milo, and Russell Perkins and wife Kelly of Dresden; five grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Natalie Smith of Brunswick; brother, Vernon Yates and wife Joyce of Florida; and several nieces and nephews.
A graveside service will take place at 11 a.m., Thurs., June 7 at Forest Hill Cemetery in Dresden with a gathering to follow on the Perkins Rd., Dresden.
