Belinda Lee Groth, 55, of Waldoboro, died peacefully Sept. 29 at Midcoast Hospital in Brunswick after a long bout with cancer. She was born Nov. 6, 1955 in Rockland to Henry and Eleanor “Elle” Lunt Groth. She grew up in Waldoboro and graduated from Medomak Valley High School her junior year. She attended Beal College in Bangor and was crowned queen of her college in 1974.
She worked as a legal secretary in Bangor and later as an office manager in a doctor’s office. She also worked for the George E. Caldwell Company. She taught dancing at the Arthur Murray School for two years at Husson. She later moved back to Waldoboro.
She had a green thumb. She enjoyed growing house plants, collecting dolls and her turtles.
She was predeceased by a brother, Henry W. Groth, who died in 1975.
She is survived by parents, Henry and Elle Lunt Groth of Waldoboro; sons, Henry W. Groth IV-Kennard of Nobleboro and Jesse T. Groth-Kennard of Waldoboro; sister, Marianne Lee Groth of St. George; nephew, Adam Groth and wife Ashley of Thomaston; niece, Carrie Groth of Cushing; great nephews, Justin Groth of Thomaston and Noah Groth of Cushing; great niece, Fay Groth of Thomaston; aunts, Hazel Ames of Camden and Evelyn Baird and husband Wilbur of Belfast; cousins, Rev. Danny Ames and wife Martha of Vermont, Donnie Ames and wife Kathie of Warren, and Brenda Brown and husband Bill of Camden; several second cousins; and grand dogs, Sadie and Bud.
A private burial service will be held at the Shuman Cemetery in Waldoboro. Should friends desire, contributions in Belinda’s memory may be made to American Cancer Society, NE Division, 1 Bowdoin Mill Island, Suite 300, Topsham, ME 04086.
