Belva Beatrice (Brann) York, 72, of Cooper’s Mills, passed away after a courageous battle against cancer at MaineGeneral Medical Center, Augusta Campus, on Feb. 6 surrounded by her loving family. Belva was born on Sept. 16, 1937 in New Sharon, the youngest daughter of Clifford W. Brann and Clara (Follett) Brann.
After graduating from Erskine Academy in 1955, she worked for the State of Maine Department of Health and Welfare.
On Nov. 23, 1957, she married the love of her life, Cassius York, in Randolph. They lived in several locations, including: Tampa, Fla., San Bernardino, Cal., and Dover, N.H. during his 12 year Air Force career.
They moved to Livermore Falls in 1967, where they lived and worked for 21 years until moving back to Coopers Mills in 1988. Belva worked at Sheepscot Valley Health Center in Coopers Mills until she retired in 1999.
Belva was predeceased by her husband, Cassius; parents; brothers, Ernest Brann and Warren Brann; and grandson, Owen M. York.
She is survived by her three sons, Steven A. York and wife Raeleen of Jay, Stanley A. York and longtime companion Tom Pilsbury of Palermo, and Scott N. York and wife Dominique of West Bend, Wis.; sister, Beverly Russell and husband Joseph of Augusta; grandchildren, Jenna and Ryan York of Jay, and Nathan York of West Bend, Wis.; step-grandchildren, Stephen Pilsbury of Spring Grove, Va., and Benjamin Pilsbury of South China; step-great-grandson, Teagan Pilsbury of South China; and several nieces, nephews and cousins and their families.
At Belva’s request, there will be no public visiting hours or funeral service. There will be a family ceremony and celebration of life for both Belva and Cassius in Rest Haven Cemetery, Windsor, this summer on a date to be determined.
